Upcoming changes to Barents-2.5km EPS file production Sep 1, 2025 08:00-08:05 CEST

September 1st 2025 we will terminate the production of the barents_eps_*T*Z.nc files (four times a day, 6 members) and their accompanying mean files barents_mean_*T*Z.nc. These are replaced with NCML files:
- for each bulletin (four times a day, 6 members) : barents2500_his_sfc_*T*Z_ens_96h.ncml
- for the full ensemble (daily, 24 members) : barents2500_his_sfc_*_ens_96h.ncml

Additionally, we now produce a new mean based on all 24 members as well as the accompanying spread (standard deviation):
- barents2500_his_sfc_*_ensmean_96h.nc
- barents2500_his_sfc_*_ensstd_96h.nc

Files based on the full ensemble are available after all members have been processed, typically early the following day. All updates regard surface fields from Barents-2.5km EPS, and full depth fields are not affected by this change.

We have parallel production of the files, and will continue until September 1st 2025.

Norkyst (v2) stoppes 1. oktober 2025. Erstattes av ny Norkyst (v3) Oct 1, 2025 08:00-08:05 CEST

Dagens Norkyst-modell, versjon 2 (norkyst_v2), stoppes 1. oktober 2025, den vil erstattes av en oppgradert modell, versjon 3 (norkyst_v3). Norkyst_v3 har kjørt parallelt med norkyst_v2 siden 1. januar 2024, og modellresultater siden oppstart er tilgjengelig. Modellen kjører på et grid med samme projeksjon som norkyst_v2, men med større geografisk utstrekning og flere vertikale lag. Varslingslengden er samme som norkyst_v2, dvs. 120h.

Døgnmiddelfiler (AVG) vil ikke lenger produseres. Filer med timesverdier (HIS) som inneholder mange av de samme variablene som norkyst_v2 er tilgjengelig. Variabelnavn og dimensjonsnavn vil ikke endres, men følgende variabler er ikke lenger tilgjengelig:

- vbar
- u (erstattet av u_eastward)
- v (erstattet av v_northward)
- tke
- Uwind (erstattet av Uwind_eastward)
- Vwind (erstattet av Vwind_northward)

Storage maintenance affecting data access on thredds.met.no ("storeB")
Completed - The maintenance is over. We have now restored access to all datasets and normal service.

Update - From 10:15 UTC today we have restored access to those datasets that have been offline since the start of the maintenance. All high-availability datasets are still served from the reserve storage, as it takes a long time to get fully synchronized model forecasts on the main storage. We expect to return to normal state on Monday.
NOTE: Especially "MEPS Archive" and "AROME Arctic Archive" remains as short archives until Monday for the reason above.

Update - Our team restored access to the reserve storage at 14:04 UTC. We will remain in the "normal" maintenance mode until further notice. Our most important weather forecasts shall be available as normal.

Scheduled - A storage maintenance is scheduled from June 24. until June 30. This will cause many datasets on thredds.met.no to be unavailable during the maintenance. It mostly affects "Users", "Projects" and long timeseries in archives, while our weather/ocean forecasts shall remain online.
In particular the long dataseries under "Weather forecasts" ("MEPS Archive/", "AROME Arctic archive/", "MET post-processed products/ Archive + Long term consistent", etc.) will remain unavailable during the maintenance.

Investigating - During the end of the announced maintenance ("storeA") this week we have encountered severe problems with our main storage ("storeB"). These problems have resulted in several outages today (June 20.) before we eventually had to stop exposing the entire main storage system. We are now running only on the reserve storage, which has the consequence that our long timeseries archives are not available, as well as many datasets under "Users" and "Projects". It is not likely that access will be restored before the announced maintenance starts next week.
Please also note that we have not been able to get a smooth transition between the main and reserve storage systems, so for many datasets you will experience that there is a "hole" in timeseries or data files for this week, as we have not been able to transfer new files from the main storage into the reserve storage before the incidence today. This will also affect the most recent forecast models, so in the coming hours they may not be fully up-to-date. The state of each model depends on how frequently they are updated and when the last model run was performed.
Our apologies for the inconvenience this has for users.
